New advertising from Ford is taking more risks these days. First, it Ford began building exposure for the 2011 Ford Fiesta more than a year before it was available in showrooms via the Fiesta Movement. Then came new commercials featuring the all-new Taurus squaring off against a slew of premium luxury cars. Now, new promotions for the Lincoln MKS are following the same path, taking a unique approach to accentuating the sedan’s strengths.

Although it might initially sound like just another advertisement, the new online videos for the MKS are truly well-produced. American cars tend to have a difficult time of being seen as good as their European rivals in regards to luxury and performance, but the premise of this endeavor is to put the EcoBoost V-6 powered Lincoln MKS up against Euro V-8 powered sedans to see which one can come out on top in terms of handling and performance. The EcoBoost V-6 has more than enough power to challenge even the turbocharged German V-8s, Vero Beach Lincoln says.

The video was launched at 6 versus 8, a website that’s presented by Automobile Magazine and Motor Trend. Competing against the Lincoln is the Mercedes-Benz E550, Jaguar XF, BMW 550i, and the Maserati Quattroporte.

Not only is 6 versus 8 innovative marketing, but it represents an important trend in the automotive industry. Small displacements, more power, and greater fuel economy are all the current objectives for all automakers, particularly as new fleet-wide fuel economy restrictions will soon be implemented.

This new advertising campaign is obviously a bit biased. But despite its bias, a Providence used car dealer points out that the importance of the new EcoBoost power train should not be understated. More power with less of a cost in terms fuel consumption is a significant advantage in the premium segment – an advantage that consumers will likely respond to.
