Although some have suggested that Ford’s premium brand will be enhancing its lineup with the addition of performance-oriented products, Lincoln certainly isn’t turning its back on the high-volume premium concept segment either. According to Automotive News, Lincoln will bring a concept to the LA Auto Show that’s based on Ford’s global small car platform.
This concept has yet to be confirmed by Ford, but rumor has it that it will be an updated version of the Concept C, which made its first debut at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. That concept featured a 1.6-liter EcoBoost inline-four cylinder engine mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. It was also said to be based on the same architecture as the all-new 2012 Ford Focus.
The move to produce a compact isn’t too surprising. Competitors including Mercedes-Benz and Cadillac have recently shown compact concepts and are likely to offer production compact vehicles within the next few years.
Additionally, with gasoline prices rising, now is certainly the time to showcase a luxury small car concept — particularly is Los Angeles where consumers love their luxury autos.
Stay tuned for official word from Lincoln on what’s in store for the LA Auto Show in November.
